A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TWO HOUSES
Alison Mariot was founded in 2014 in Toronto. Meller was founded the same year in Barcelona. Two houses, two continents, one conviction: that an object worn every day should be made properly, or not at all.
This collection brings Meller's sculptural eyewear to Alison Mariot, selected frame by frame and available here exclusively. The names — Kesia, Ayira, Nayah, Adisa — come from Meller's own language of colour and place.
WHY POLARISED LENSES MATTER
Light reflecting off water, asphalt, glass or snow travels in one direction. That horizontal glare is what makes you squint, and what tires the eye over a long day outdoors.
German TAC polarised lenses filter it out. Colours stay true, contrast holds, and detail returns to bright surfaces. The difference is most obvious near the sea, behind the wheel, and on a ski slope — the three places ordinary tinted lenses fail.
UV400, CATEGORY 3
UV400 means the lens blocks ultraviolet light up to 400 nanometres — that is 100% of both UVA and UVB. It is the highest level of ultraviolet protection an eyewear lens can offer.
Category 3 refers to how much visible light the lens absorbs, and it is the category made for strong sunlight: Mediterranean summers, open water, mountain snow. Every pair complies with the European standard EN ISO 12312-1.
A dark lens without certified UV protection is worse than no sunglasses at all. The pupil widens behind the tint, and more ultraviolet reaches the eye. This is why the certification matters more than the shade.
BIO-BASED FRAMES
The frames are made from bio-based material rather than conventional petroleum plastic, drawing on renewable sources to lower the carbon footprint of each pair.
It is also a better material to wear. Bio-based frames are light, warm to the touch rather than cold, and hold their shape without the brittleness of cheap injection-moulded plastic.
CHOOSING YOUR SHAPE
The rule is contrast. A frame works when its geometry is the opposite of the face wearing it.
Round or full faces are balanced by angular frames — rectangular and square shapes add definition. Square or angular faces soften under round and oval frames. Oval faces carry almost any shape, which makes the choice a matter of taste rather than correction. Heart-shaped faces sit well in frames that are wider at the bottom than the top.
One measure applies to everyone: the frame should not extend past the widest point of the face, and the eyes should sit near the centre of each lens.
UNISEX BY DESIGN
Every frame in this collection is unisex. Not as a compromise, but because proportion and colour were chosen to work on any face — the same reasoning behind the rest of the Alison Mariot collections.
HOW TO CARE FOR THEM
Clean the lenses with the soft cloth supplied, never with a shirt or a paper tissue — both scratch the coating. Avoid soap and detergent. Return the pair to its case when you are not wearing it, and never rest it lens-down on a hard surface.
Heat is the other enemy. A car dashboard in August will warp a frame permanently.
WHAT COMES WITH EVERY PAIR
Each pair arrives in the signature Alison Mariot gift box, with a protective case and cleaning cloth, and is covered by a two-year warranty. Shipped worldwide by express courier, with delivery in 1 to 3 working days across Europe and North America.
